Description

Medium: lithograph (after the 1965 Picasso painting). This exquisite lithograph was printed in 1967 by Henri Deschamps at the Mourlot studio in Paris and issued in a limited edition of 200 (this impression is numbered 190/200). The same Picasso lithograph was then used for a 1967 poster entitled "Exposition Picasso, Chateau de Culan" (catalogue reference: Czwiklitzer 261). The poster edition had lettering and was issued in an edition of 750, but the lithograph offered here is before letters were added and from a much superior printing on quality Arches paper. The lithographed image size is 20 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches (520 x 427 mm) and the full sheet measures 21 1/2 x 18 1/4 inches (545 x 467 mm). Signed by Picasso in the stone (not hand-signed). A splendid, richly inked impression.

Condition: the margins have been trimmed by a previous owner, presumably to fit inside a frame. There is minor age-toning surrounding the image defining the area where a mat had once lain, with some creasing to the top right corner, and old tape on the back side. The second photo shows the complete sheet.
