Medium: original lithograph. This impression was printed in 1939 for the art revue XXe Siecle (issue number 5-6) and published by San Lazzaro. A later edition was also published by XXe Siecle in 1959, but this is the original, first edition Max Ernst lithograph. Size: 12 1/2 x 9 5/8 inches (317 x 245 mm). Signed in the plate (not by hand).
Condition: there are six pinholes along the left edge of the sheet from the publisher's original binding staples, which also demonstrates the provenance of this work.
Max Ernst photogram "Mr Knife, Miss Fork"
Medium: gelatin silver print (photogram). Printed in 1931 and published in Paris for the journal Arts et Metiers Graphiques. A photogram was an experimental technique conceived by Man Ray and Max Ernst as a way of making photographic prints without a camera. Size: 7 x 4 1/2 inches (175 x 113 mm).
