Cubism

The Bauhaus School was an important offshoot of Expressionism, and we are pleased to include Bauhaus artists Josef Albers, Lyonel Feininger and Paul Klee.

Our collection includes original posters and various vintage replicas of French posters from the Belle Epoque, and beautiful mid-century lithographs printed by Mourlot after posters by Picasso, Chagall, Braque, Miro and other modern artists.
Medium: original woodcut. Printed in 1920 for the Deutsche Graphiker der Gegenwart portfolio, and published in Leipzig by Klinkhardt & Biermann in an edition of 500. Catalogue reference: Dube 266B. Image size: 9 7/8 x 6 1/4 inches (250 x 159 mm). Sheet size: 12 5/8 x 9 1/4 inches (320 x 235 mm). This work can be found in the permanent collection of MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) in New York. Not signed.
Medium: lithograph (after the original lithograph poster executed for Maison de la Pensee of Paris). During the late 1940's and throughout the 1950's, Henri Matisse created a series of posters at the atelier of Mourlot Freres. The lithograph offered here was printed by Mourlot in 1959, reproducing the Matisse poster in a smaller size. Image size: 9 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches. Sheet size: 12 x 9 inches (300 x 230 mm). Not signed.
Medium: original etching. This impression on Canson et Montgolfier wove paper was printed in 1937 in an edition of 500 for the "Paris 1937" portfolio. Printed at the atelier of Jean-Gabriel Daragnes, this art and literary album celebrated Paris in 1937, with original etchings from important artists of the time, and essays from leading writers. Plate size: 13 1/8 x 10 1/8 inches (333 x 262 mm). With narrow margins (as published) the sheet size is: 13 5/8 x 10 5/8 inches (345 x 273 mm). Signed in the plate, not hand-signed.
Medium: original etching and aquatint. Signed in pencil and numbered 68 of 80. Printed in 1947 on Velin de Hollande paper and published in New York by the Quadrangle Press as a special insert presented with the deluxe edition of Robert Goldwater's "Rufino Tamayo". Plate size: 7 7/8 x 5 3/4 inches (200 x 148 mm). Sheet size: 11 1/8 x 8 1/8 inches (282 x 205 mm). A rich and beautifully printed impression.

Condition: this work has been attached by the publisher onto a larger support sheet.
Medium: pochoir. Printed in 1957 at the atelier of Daniel Jacomet and published in Paris by San Lazzaro for the art revue XXe Siecle (issue No. 9). Size: 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches (315 x 243 mm). A richly inked impression! Not signed.
Medium: lithograph (after Renoir). One of the most famous Renoir lithographs, this is a portrait of Julie Manet and her cousin Jeanne (Julie Manet was the niece of Edouard Manet and the daughter of Berthe Morisot). This impression was printed at the atelier Mourlot in 1951 using the same number of stones as the original, and published in an edition of 3000. Sheet size: 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches (320 x 242 mm). There is text on the back side, as issued. Signed in the plate, not hand-signed.
Medium: collotype (after the painting). Printed in 1926 at the Leon Marotte atelier and published in an edition of 1000 by Editions des Quatre Chemins. Image size: 8 x 4 3/4 inches (202 x 123 mm). Sheet size: 11 x 8 1/4 inches (280 x 210 mm). Signed in the plate (not by hand).
